Ikebana International Chapter 182 in Columbia SC is proud to announce its Annual Ikebana Exhibition. Typically we have approximately 80 Ikebana arrangements, Zen Gardens and miniatures on display. We will be showcasing arrangements in a variety of schools and styles.
We are also pleased to announce this year's presenter will be John Spence, a longtime member of Chapter 182.
John Spence was fortunate to learn ikebana starting at age 8 the traditional way - his mother taught him. He is the former Chapter 182 President and currently maintains the Chapter website. He is a Sogetsu instructor, fourth grade, and plans to pursue his testing for Riji (first grade) in Japan. Towards that end, he is fortunately continuing his instructor training with Hideko Rainey. He prefers to build large ikebana structures, frequently exhibits, builds ikebana constantly, has accepted numerous invitations and even has collected an occasional award. In his spare time, he's building a Japanese garden on five acres of forest.
