"Kado - The Art of Flowers"
Video Presentation by John Spence

This year's virtual exhibition's theme, as well as the video title is "Kado - The Art of Flowers" and features ikebana arrangements by Columbia Ikebana International members. A wide variety of schools and styles are displayed in the slideshow below.

This year's video demonstration will be by John Spence, Sogetsu Instructor and member of Ikebana International Chapter 182.  The video is titled, Kado - The Art of Flowers and focuses on the relationship between Japanese aesthetics and ikebana. John will demonstrate a variety of techniques, materials, arrangements, and containers with a focus on demonstrating what makes ikebana an art and how it differs from Western flower arranging. In particular, the video highlights the Japanese cultural perception of beauty and philosophy, beyond just simple aesthetics, and how it is inherent in ikebana. It is intended to provide insights for beginners as well as advanced practitioners in ikebana.

The video has been uploaded to YouTube and can be accessed by either clicking on the picture below or the button. The video is about 1 hour long.
